Cumberland Castle
Residence on 2nd floor
Club on 1st floor.
The last one I remember was Birdland.
East corner of Queen Cross and King Streets.

Bust of Buddhoe (Moses Gottlieb)
"Buddhoe" or "General Buddhoe" was one of the acclaimed leaders of the rebellion that led to the emancipation of the enslaved Africans in the Danish islands on July 3, 1848.

"Buddhoe" was a general term used during slavery in the Caribbean to describe someone with great leadership skills.

King Street
This was our Main Street. Most businesses were on this street.

Great on days that rained or the sun was too hot.

The green area (grass) was once a house.
(2022 - A building has been erected where grass is located.)

Güené Belardo once had a restaurant in this building. The food was delicious. Later became clothing store. Corner of Hill and King Streets

Someone lived in small building with red roof.
But, I mostly remember it being a barber shop.

This has always been a ruin as long as I can remember. West side of street.

A note from St. Croix 24:

August 2013 - There was a lot of damage in Frederiksted when Hurricane Hugo
hit the island in 1989. More damage occurred when other hurricanes passed over the island years later. What Hugo did not blow down or damage other hurricanes did. Some houses were repaired. Many houses were never repaired and still stand today in disrepair. The island residents discussed things in reference to Hugo - Before Hugo and After Hugo. That may have changed.

Keep in mind that many areas shown in these pages may have changed since 2008 and 2009.
