The black and white Puerto Rican flag, often called the "Resistance flag," is a symbol of protest and resistance against US-imposed austerity measures and colonialism in Puerto Rico. It gained prominence after the passing of PROMESA, a law that put Puerto Rico's finances under federal oversight, and has since become a symbol of Grief, mourning, and colonialism.
