While attending St. Francis College (Work Study Program), I worked in the building that was previously on this corner, Dr. White Community Center. The bottom portion, the gold-colored bricks, looks like that of the original building.
The area has really been developed, like the rest of New York City. There are many new residential buildings and businesses. Keep in mind that during the 70s the area was mostly people of color. Farragut Housing is close by. Seeing whites in the area was rare, other than the nuns at the Center. During my walk on October 28, 2014, I noticed the area is now mostly made up of whites and Asians.
I took the F train to York Street station and walked around the area. It brought back many areas. Photos I took are below.
