Who was this tour with? Biss or Crosby?

At the farm we visited.
During these tours, we visited a farm, one or more road stands, Kitchen Kettle and Farmers Market. We usually had lunch at Good 'N Plenty, which closed it's doors in January 2022.

Taken from a calendar I once had. No idea who the photographer is.
The farms, and area, are truly this beautiful.

The "old" Countryside Road Stand. It was a small kiosk.
Also called Eli's Road Stand.

Luckily, I visited the "old" and the "new".

The "new" Countryside Road Stand. Also known as the
Amish Walmart. It appears the tourists are making the Amish millionaires. The goods sold in the store are said to be made by community members. Address: 2966 Stumptown Road, Ronks, PA.

On April 18, 2009, Elton and I went to Lancaster, PA on a different Penn-Dutch Tour. This tour would include an explanation of the involvement of Lancaster with the Underground Railroad.

Our first stop was the Plain and Fancy Restaurant where we ate family style (round tables instead of rectangular). The food in this restaurant is very similar to Good 'N Plenty (1969 to 2021). I had not been here since the 90's and must say the place has changed a lot. There is now an Inn, gift shop, a replica of an Amish house (was present in the 80's), a one room school and a theater. (Update: 2023 - Plain and Fancy now is a Smokehouse BBQ and Brews joint.)

After lunch, a local guide came on the bus to explain to us the terms used to identify the families assisting the slaves and the items used to identify the houses. The guide spoke to us as we drove around the countryside, enjoying the beautiful farms. Eventually, we picked up an actor who was portraying Mr. Will Parker.

Robert, the slave-actor, discussed the lives of the slaves at the time and what it was like in the area and how the slaves were protected by the Quakers from bounty hunters, etc. We were shown where the Gibbons family, Quakers, were buried. They assisted many slaves obtain their "freedom". Robert went on to explain the meaning of some of the spirituals sung by the slaves. Most of the songs contained messages that only the slaves understood.

The Gibbons farm still exists though now owned by a different family.

We also made a stop at Eli's Countryside Road Stand.
