On Saturday, August 19, 2023, I decided to play a tourist for the day. I visited Liberty and Ellis Islands. I was surprised at how much has changed on Liberty Island. When was the list time I visited the island? Below are the photos I took.

Two Staten Island Ferries. One headed to Manhattan dock the other to Staten Island.
The ferry that took us to Liberty Island. It was really rocking. A few times it rocked so much no one was allowed to get on until it stopped.

It was a sea of people. All nationalities. Lower Manhattan in the background. World Trade Center on the left.

Getting ready to leave for Ellis Island.
People on left departing ferry which had just arrived, waiting to get on the next ferry on the right.
This is what I learned. To enter the Statue, including the pedestal, reservations must be made. The General Admission ticket only allowed me to take the Ferry to both Islands. I was told that to visit the pedestal, reservations must be made about 4 weeks in advance. To visit the crown, the reservations must be made at least 4 months in advance. I suppose this can change based on the time of year. No backpacks are allowed in the Statue. Close by are lockers. There are many websites selling tickets so be careful. I would recommend www.cityexperiences.com/new-york/city-cruises/statue. (The period at the end is not part of link.) Once on the site, choose what Experience you want. Good luck.
